With her were children: Susan (16), sewed musline worker, Robert (12), domestic servant, Grace (10), granddaughters Elizabeth Allan (5) of Tarbolton, Mary Wilson (4) of Tarbolton, Elizabeth McCallum (1) of Tarbolton.
At the time of the 1871 Scotland Census Elizabeth Cowan, aged 65, born in Craigie Ayrshire, widow, was living in Loudoun St., Mauchline, Ayrshire. Present were son Robert (22) of Tarbolton, box maker, granddaughter Elizabeth (11) of Tarbolton, scholar.
