At the time of the 1901 Scotland Census John C. Barclay, aged 38, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, domestic gardener, and wife Agnes, aged 40, born in Tarbolton, were living at 33 East King St., Helensburgh, Dumbarton. Present was daughter Agnes C. C. (5) of Tarbolton.


John Cowan Barclay, of 66 Sinclair Street Helensburgh, gardener, married to Agnes Candlish, son of James Barclay, silk weaver, deceased, and Mary Criddle Barclay M.S. Cowan, deceased, died aged 56 years as a result of apoplexy, Agnes C C Barclay of 65 Sinclair Street Helensburgh, daughter, the informant.
