In August 1830 James Reed was present at the marriage of his brother Philip Reed to Eliza Hart in Crowan, Cornwall.

In 1851 James Reed, aged 42, born in Wendron Cornwall, copper miner, and wife Elizabeth Reed, aged 41, born in Crowan, were living in Carthew, Wendron. With them were children: James (17) of Crowan, copper miner, Thomas (16) of Illogan, copper miner, Edward (14) of Wendron, copper miner, Genifer (7) of Wendron, John (4) of Wendron.

In 1861 James Reed, aged 53, born in Wendron, copper miner, and wife Elizabeth Reed, aged 52, born in Crowan, were living in Forest, Illogan. With them were children Thomas (24) of Illogan, copper miner, Edward (22) of Wendron, copper miner, Jane (16) of Illogan, John (14) of Wendron, copper miner, and William (9) of Wendron, scholar.

In 1871 James Reed, aged 62, born in Wendron, tin & copper miner, and wife Elizabeth Reed, aged 61, born in Crowan, were living in Forest, Illogan. With them were sons John (23), tin miner, William (17), tin miner.
