The engagement was announced to-day of Mr Stephen Edward Arthur Bairstow, elder son of Sir Edward and Lady Bairstow, to Miss Mary Cecilia Lampard, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Sydney Lampard, of Oakwood Cottage, Bolney, Sussex.
The marriage is to take place shortly at Durban, South Africa. Sir Edward Bairstow, who was knighted in 1932, has been organist and master of the choir at York Minster for 23 years.
For more than six years Sir Edward, who is an examiner to the Associated Board of the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music, has been Professor of Music at Durham University.
