  Research Notes:

In September 1839 Richard H Alexander was present at the marriage of his daughter Mary Anne Alexander to Gabriel Goldney, Esq., in Corsham Wilts.

At the time of the 1841 England Census Rd Alexander, aged 63, born in County, ind[ependent], and wife Marey, aged 65, were living in High Street, Corsham Wiltshire.

Richard Hayward Alexander of Osborn's Hotel, Adelphi, St. Martin in the Fields, and of Corsham Wilts, died aged 55 years [sic] (burial record). Actual age is 65.

Abstract of the Will of Richard Hayward Alexander of Corsham in the County of Wilts, Esquire, written 17 Nov 1843, proved 15 Dec 1843. 6

Gives and bequeaths to his wife Mary Alexander all his household goods and furniture, his carriage and horses, books, plate, linen, china and implements of housekeeping, along with all his wine, beer and liquors. Also gives to her £200 per an indenture of lease and release dated 24th and 25th May 1808, made before he and his wife Mary (then Mary Prior) were married, and from which marriage settlement an amount of £2,000 is to be used to the benefit of his younger children, namely George Alexander and Mary Ann the wife of Gabriel Goldney.

All the remainder of his personal estate and effects he gives & bequeaths to his said wife and to his friends the Rev. William Coles Barnett and Charles Sargent, both of Corsham.

Gives and devises to his son Richard Chandler Alexander a close parcel of water meadow called Cross Drove Mead containing about 6 acres, a close piece of 24 acres & 16 perches of arable land called Coombe, and other close parcels.

Gives and bequeaths £12,000 to his daughter the said Mary Anne Goldney.

Gives £50 each to his friends William Coles Barnett and Charles Sargent, as a small remuneration for their efforts as trustees and executors.

Appoints his wife and his friends William Coles Barnett and Charles Sargent, co-executors of his last will and testament.

Witnesses: Thos. Ayliffe, Chippenham Wilts, and Henry Spackman, Corsham Wilts.
