In October 1634 Geoffry Gartrell and John Peller took inventory of the goods & chattels of Richard Orchard of Breage, deceased.*
In April 1640 Jeffry Gartrell was a witness to the will of Elizabeth Bovey of Breage, widow.*

The Will of Geoffry Gartrell of the Parish of Breage in the County of Cornwall, Husbandman, written 17 Dec 1641, proved 6 Feb 1660/1.
In the name of God Amen I Geoffry Gartell of the p'ish of Breage in the Countie of Cornwall, husbandman being in perfect health & memory (thanks Be to God) considering mans mortalitie doe make this my last will & Testament in manner & forme following, vizt.
Imprimis I commend my soule unto the mercy of my Creator & Saviour & my bodie I commend to Christian buriall.
Item I geve towards the repairing of the Church of Breage two shillings.
Item I geve to my son Ambrose Gartrell one heyfer calf or ten shillings for the same.
Item I geve to my daughter Katherine three pounds in mony or one cowe.
Item I geve to Geoffry Carlion her son one heifor of 3 yeers old when the said Geoffry Carlion shall be sixteen yeers of age.
Item I geve unto Vernon William John & Edward Kerlyon her sons & to every of them one yeow sheepe
Item I geve & bequeath to Katherine my wief all her apparell & her chest & whatsoever she hath in it. Furthermore my Will is that my son Geoffry shall find & mainteyne unto my said wief sufficient meate drink & apparell fire wood & candlelight and all other necessaries fitting for her degree & calling during her lief to be had & taken with my said son at Tregonning where now I lyve, if she please to accept the same. And that my said wief shall likewise have to her owne use for her lodging the porch Chamber at Tregonning aforesaid & the Bedd on which I now lie with the furniture thereto belonging during her lief and afterwards the same to remaine unto my said son Geoffry and to his assignes. Furthermore I geve & bequeath to my said wief ten shillings to be paid her yeerly during her lief by my said son if they contynue & lyve together in house. And if it happen that any variance arise betweene my wief & my said son through ill usage and she thereof complain to my overseers of this my will and the same found by two of them to be true, and she . . . . . . . to take her maintenance as aforesaid from my said son, that then my will & meaning is that my son shall pay yeerly to her my said wief towards her maintenance fower pounds of lawfull mony to be paid quarterly during her lief & allowing her the said Chamber & bedd & firewood for dressing her meate and doing her other necessaries, Provided always that if my said son doe not pay my said wief the said fower pounds in manner aforesaid, that then my will is & I doe hereby graunt that it shall be lawfull for my said wief to enter into those two fields or closes of land at Tregonyn aforesaid next adjoyning to the Tenement of Sparnon contayning by estimation five acres of land or thereabouts be it more or less and them to have hold & injoy & to take & receve the profitts thereof during her lief in full allowance & recompence for her maintenance, & her chamber & bedd & firewood as aforesaid, and my said son to discharge her of the lord's rent thereof during her lief.
Item All the rest of my goods lands & chattells whatsoever not before geven or bequeathed I geve & bequeath to my said son Geoffry Gartrell whom I make full & whole executor. And for my overseers I doe intreat John Gartrell my nephew of Phillock Richard Lakes William Lanyon to see this my will performed according to my true intent & meaning. Witnes my hand & seal yeover the 17th day of December Anno Dni 1641.
