  Research Notes:

Inquisitions after a writ dated 28 Jun "10 Edw I" following the death of "Thomas son of Otto” name “his three daughters Joan aged 14, Maud aged 11 and Beatrice age 8, are his next heirs”. A writ dated 4 Oct "23 Edw I", after the death of "Isabel late the wife of Simon de Bello Campo" refers to "Wottone, the manor…held in dower, by the assignment of the said Simon with the consent of William de Bello Campo his father, of the heirs of the barony of Bedford", and names as her surviving heirs "…with the heirs of the body of Beatrice sometime sister of the said Simon", adding that Beatrice had married "first to Thomas son of Otto, who had by her a son named Otto now deceased, and a daughter named Maud now aged 26 years and the wife of John Botetourte…". 1

...Maud was co-heiress in 1283 to her brother, Otes Fitz Thomas, and sole heiress in 1285 to her sister, Joan, wife of Guy Ferre, by which she inherited the hereditary office of coiner of the Mint, together with the manors of Mendlesham, Suffolk, Belchamp Otton, Gestingthorpe, and Gosfield, Essex, Woodmancote, Gloucestershire, Hamerton, Huntingdonshire, Shelsley Beauchamp, Worcestershire, and one-third share of the barony of Bedford, Bedfordshire... Sometime in the period 1292 - 1302, Maud was heiress to her cousin, Joan, daughter of Hugh Fitz Otes, Knt., by which she inherited the manor of Isemhampstead (in Chesham), Buckinghamshire....

In 1325 [John's widow,] Maud, sued Andrew de Bures, Robert de Bures and his wife, Hillary, and John de Wysham and his wife, Hawise, for one third part of the manor of Little Ellingham, Norfolk, which she claimed as her dower. In 1327 she likewise sued Robert son of John Botetourt, John de Wynchestre and others regarding unspecified land in Suffolk. 2
