The king to the justiciary of Ireland. By law and custom of Ireland the king may distrain widows by their lands to take husbands of the king's choice, provided the widows be not disparaged. Mandate that if A., who was the wife of Hugh de Lacy, will not take for her husband Stephen Longespee, as the king had requested her, the justiciary will distrain her to do so according to the custom of Ireland.

Mandate to Maurice Fitz Gerald, justiciary of Ireland, to cause Emeline, Countess of Ulster, to have seisin of all the lands and tenements which descend to her by right of inheritance from Walter de Rydeleford, her father, whose heir she is; and to cause her to have her dower out of the lands and tenements in Ireland of Hugh, late Earl of Ulster, her husband; excepting the county [comitatus] of Ulster, which the justiciary shall retain in the king's hand. If the Countess shall have to plead for any of her lands or tenements, the justiciary shall administer justice to her from quinzaine to quinzaine, until her plea be determined.

Mandate to Emeline, countess of Ulster, sometime wife of Stephen Lungespeye, and the other executors of his will, to deliver the said castles which remained in their keeping after the death of the said Stephen, to the said Matthias to whose keeping the king has committed them during pleasure.

Grant for three years to Emelina de Lacy, countess of Ulster, and Emelina Longespeye, her daughter, that Thomas de Holebech, be admitted as their general attorney at counties and hundreds in all pleas and plaints in whatsoever courts and that he may appoint attornies in the place of the said countess and her daughter, who, in the king's presence, may ratify and accept whatever the said Thomas and the said attorneys shall do....

Emeline married Hugh DE LACY, 1st Earl of Ulster, son of Hugh DE LACY, 1st Lord of Meath, and Rohese DE MONMOUTH. (Hugh DE LACY was born about 1176 and died shortly before 26 Dec 1242 in Franciscan Friars Convent, Carrickfergus, Ireland.)

Emeline also married Stephen DE LONGESPÉE, Earl of Ulster, Justiciar of Ireland, son of William DE LONGESPÉE, Earl of Salisbury, and Ela FITZ WILLIAM, Countess of Salisbury, between 16 May 1244 and 14 Dec 1244. (Stephen DE LONGESPÉE died before 12 Jul 1260.)
