1625, Caeryrfa, part of Penllwyn Cynfin Uchaf, William Miles, 6d. David Thomas 3d.

1630, Joan Owen, widow, 6d., David Thomas 3d.

Joan Owen was the widow of William Miles of Gabalfa, the son of Miles Lewis of the same. The Miles family of Gabalfa were rising minor gentry who were at this time busily building up an estate. They also acquired Henstaff in St. Brides, super Ely nearby, but their advance was frustrated by failure of male heirs before they managed to acquire major gentry status."

The Will of Johan Owen of Llandaf, widow, written 5 Sep 1636, proved 3 Feb 1636/7.

In the Name of God Amen the fifth of the Month of September in the yeare of our Lord God 1636, I Johan Owen Widowe of Landaffe being sicke in body but whole in mynd and of good and perfect Remembrance -----and prayse be to Allmighty God Doe make . . . . . . . my last Will and testament in maner and [fo]rme followyng that is to say:

I Comend my soule to Allmighty God my maker and Redeemer and my body to be buried in the Chathedrall Church of Landaffe.

Item. I give and bequeath to the Church . . . . . . . and towards the . . . . . . . forty shillings to be payd to the Doctor . . . . . . . that he may despose them.

Item. I give and bequeath to the poore of Landaff and Whete Church to be equally devided betwene them five pounds.

Item. I give and bequeath to my Grann Child Chatherine Myles the suposed daughter of Thomas Myles Eaight pounds two milch kynne tenn sheappe.

Item. I give and bequeath to my sonne Thomas Myles foure of my best oxen and one mare Coult of two yeare olde.

Item. More I give and bequeath to my sone Thomas Miles and to my daughter Chatherine Aubery five Acres of Wheate sixe of barely thirteen of oats to be equally devided between them.

Item. More I give to my sone Thomas Miles forty sheappe.

Item. I give and bequeath to Wm Milles my grann Child two milch kynes.

Item. I give and bequeath to my man servant Richard George 1 hayfer of two yeare old two bushells of barely.

I give to my sone Morgan Myles one mare and the Coult to Wm Myles his sonn a[nd] the Rest of the . . . . . . . best that is not Alre[ady] bequeathed I doe give and bequeath to my sone Thomas Myles and my daughter Chatherine Aubrey and all the foder I doe give towards the winter[ing] of all the Cattell.

Item. I give and bequeath to my sonn Thomas Miles and my daughter Chatherine Aubrey all the Cheese and butter beeste and foure . . . . . . . of bakonn to be equally devided bettween them.

Item. I give to Jenet David my mayd servant foure sheapp and Also I doe nomynate and Apoynt my Welbeloved sonne Thomas Myles to be true and sole Executor. More I do make George Mathew and Edward Thom[as] overseers of this my last Will and testament.

More I shall desire of my daughter Florence so . . . . . . .
