DREADFUL ACCIDENT AT HANGING ROCK-A most distressing and fatal accident occurred on Wednesday, the 20th instant, to Mr. J. Prisk, brother of Mr. Paul Prisk, of this place. Mr. J Prisk was working in a sluicing claim at the Red Hills, near Mount Misery, where the ground is worked nearly sixty feet deep. Prisk was taking off a bench about forty feet down, when, without any previous warning, a large mass of earth slipped, or broke away from the surface. Frisk saw it coming, and was in the act of walking backwards, when unfortunately he stumbled, and fell on his back, at the same instant the mass of earth struck a projecting part of the bank, and then falling on the poor fellow, followed by water, water which together smothered him before his mates could remove the falling debris. Prisk has been residing on this gold-field for many years, was a married man, and leaves three young children ; his wife is near her confinement at the present time. He was much respected by all who knew him. His funeral took place on Friday, the 22nd instant, and was attended by nearly all the European miners and other residents on the diggings.
