Thomas Christopher Spurrier of Naval Hospital Hasler died aged 33 years (burial record).

--------------------------

DEATH OF MR. T. C. SPURRIER.—The funeral took place on Sunday morning last of the late Mr. Thomas Christopher Spurrier, formerly of Flushing, who for over 14 years served in the Royal Navy. On Wednesday, the 29th June, he was taken ill whilst on duty on board H.M.S. "Bellona." He was transferred to the hospital ship "Maine" on the 30th and conveyed to Haslar Hospital, where he died on the 13th inst. His death was hastened, however, by a collision which occurred between another ship and the "Maine" as she was entering Portland Harbour. The impact and crash was immediately outside that part of the "Bellona" where he lay in his sick berth and the shock was so great that he became insensible. He leaves a widow and a son, two years old. The widow is a daughter of Mrs. Almond Thomas, Penryn, and a sister of the well-known Cornwall county footballer, Mr. "Jack" Thomas. The body arrived by the 6.30 p.m. train on Friday and was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. Thomas in Helston-road. The funeral took place in St. Gluvias churchyard, the Rev. F. R. Carr officiating. Amongst a large number who attended the funeral were Mrs. T. C. Spurrier (widow), Mr. Spurrier (father), Mrs. Spurrier (mother), Miss M. Spurrier (sister), Mr. John Spurrier (brother), Miss Norah Thomas (sister-in-law), Mr. Jack Thomas (brother-in-law), Mr. Allen Thomas (father-in-law), Mrs. Albert Spurrier (sister-in-law), Mrs. Tabb (cousin), Mrs. Medlin (aunt), Mr. Alfred Thomas (brother-in-law), Messrs. Thomas, Uren, Treloar and W. H. Hamlyn (representing Mr. C. S. Goldman, M.P., who sent a beautiful anchor wreath).... Deceased, who was a Freemason, belonged to a Devonport Lodge. Time did not, however, permit of a communication from that Lodge to the Lodge at Penryn, otherwise no doubt many of his brother Masons would have attended the funeral. Deceased's last wish was to be buried at Penryn, otherwise the funeral would have been at Gosport. Deceased was 33 years of age.
