Research Notes:
The History of the foundation of Walden abbey names “Matilda de Fenis” as wife of “Humfridus de Boun comes Herefordiæ et Essexiæ”. A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey records that “Humfredus septimus de Bohun” married “Matildem de Fenes”, adding that she died “in festo S. Leonardi” and was buried “apud Waldene”. An inspeximus dated 15 Jun 1275 records the dower promised by “William de Fenles lord of Fenles” to “Sir Humphrey de Boun” with “his sister Maud de Fenles in marriage”. 1
Marriage Information:
Mathilde married Humphrey VII DE BOHUN, son of Humphrey VI DE BOHUN, Governor of Winchester, and Eleanor DE BRAOSE, in 1275. (Humphrey VII DE BOHUN was born about 1249 in Hay Castle, Hay on Wye, Breconshire, Wales, died on 31 Dec 1298 in Pleshey, Essex, England and was buried in Walden Abbey, Essex, England.)
