A LINK WITH THE PAST.
Another link with the past is (writes a correspondent) broken by the death, which occurred recently at Wimbledon, in the 87th year of her age, of Dame Harriette Augusta Royer, widow of Sir Alexander Campbell, second Bart. of Barcaldine and Glenure, Serjeant-at-Arms to Queen Victoria, and for many years private secretary to his cousin, the second Marquis of Breadalbane. She was the daughter of Admiral Sir George [sic] Collier, and grand-daughter of Admiral Sir George Collier, who died Commander-in-Chief at the Nore. Lady Campbell was born in the Mauritius, and on the voyage home a terrific storm arose, and of the convoy of ships only that on which she was escaped destruction. Her early life was spent in Paris, where in those days there was a large colony of Scots residents, including the late Earl of Leven and Melville, the Cochranes, the Wolfe-Murrays, and William Stirling of Keir, afterwards Sir William Stirling-Maxwell, Bart., K.T.
