FATAL DRIVING ACCIDENT AT PENLLINE.
On Thursday, Mr Grover held an inquest at the Cross Keys Inn, Dynas Powis, touching the death of Morgan Miles, 64 years of age, living at Cross Farm, in the same locality, who met with a fatal accident on Monday night last, under very distressing circumstances. The deceased was one of a party returning home about five o'clock in the afternoon, in Jeff's carrier van, from St. Mary-hill Fair. Having reached the top of Penlline-hill, and proceeding at the time at a fast pace, the vehicle overpowered the horse in going down the pitch, resulting in it running against the embankment with tremendous force, and tipping over, throwing the passengers violently into the road, and hurting several. Deceased received severe injuries to his head and chest. He was conveyed home the same night, but died the next day (Tuesday). Another farmer from Pendoylan also lies in a precarious condition. After examining Carless (the driver), Mr Jeffs (the owner of the vehicle), and one of the passengers, the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death." They were also of opinion that the van was going too fast at the top of the hill to enable the driver to slacken speed as he was about to descend.
