At the time of the 1851 England Census John W Cooper, aged 16, born in Wincanton Somerset, scholar, and brothers William E Cooper and Frederick E Cooper, were boarding in Warminster Wiltshire.

At the time of the 1861 England Census John Wilson Cooper, aged 24, born in Wincanton Somerset, 3rd class clerk War Office, was lodging at Fur Cottage, Goding Place, Putney Surrey.

At the time of the 1871 England Census John W Cooper, aged 34, born in Wincanton Somerset, unmarried, senior clerk War Office, was visiting solicitor Stephen B Dixon in Church Road, Pewsey Wiltshire.

At the time of the 1881 England Census John W Cooper, aged 44, born in Wincanton Somerset, senior clerk War Office, and wife Jessie, aged 27, born in Kensington Middlesex, were living at 23 The Chase, Clapham London. Present were daughters Jessie M (5) of Kensington, scholar, and Ethel B (1 mo) of Clapham Surrey.

In January 1898 John Wilson Cooper, esquire, and brothers William Edward Cooper and George Henry Cooper, solicitors, were granted Probate of their late father's personal effects.
