In 1851 James Lewis, aged 31, born in Purton, ag. lab., and wife Ann Lewis, aged 30, born in Purton Wilts, were living in Pavenhill, Purton. With them were children (born in Purton) Joseph (7) and Ellen (1). Daughter Sarah was visiting her grandparents.
In 1861 James Lewis, aged 40, born in Parton [Purton], labourer, and wife Ann Lewis, aged 39, born in Parton [Purton] Wilts, were living at 10 Bolts Cottages, Chelsea St. Luke, Middlesex. With them were children Ellen (11) of Parton [Purton], Richard (5) of Paddington Middlesex, and William (1) of Chelsea.

In 1891 James Lewis, aged 70, born in Purton Wilts, widower, bricklayer, was with his son Joseph Lewis and his family at 3 Stanley Villas, Chiswick Middlesex.
