At the time of the 1911 England Census May Spackman, aged 23, born in Bromley by Bow, London, widow, sewing machinist tailoring, was with her widowed mother at 135 Bow Common Lane, Old Town London.

In the 1939 Register May Popplewell (b. 13 May 1887), unpaid domestic duties, and husband Charles E Popplewell (b. 28 Sep 1887), licensed victualler's stocktaker, were living at 44 Lilac Gardens, Romford, Essex. At the same address were [children, single] May L Popplewell (b. 25 Jul 1913), drapery-shop assistant, Charles H Popplewell (b. 31 Oct 1916), blacksmith fitter, and Irene Popplewell (b. 11 Jan 1920), telephonist.

In July 1950 May Popplewell, widow, was granted Administration of her late husband's personal effects.
