In 1838 Robert Horton was co-executor and a beneficiary of the Will of his late uncle Benjamin Blackman of Hooe, gent.

At the time of the 1851 England Census Robert Horton, aged 55, born in Berkley Sqr., Middlesex, unmarried, farmer & grazier of 400 acres [employing] 16 men [and] 8 boys, was living on Pelsham Farm, Peasmarsh Sussex. With him was aunt Mary Blackman (74) of Hooe Sussex, unmarried, housekeeper.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Robert Horton, aged 66, born in Hooe Sussex, unmarried, farmer of 347 acres employing 18 men & 4 boys, was living on Pelsham Farm, Peasmarsh Sussex. With him was aunt Mary Blackman (84) of Hooe Sussex, unmarried.
