Research Notes:
"Accidental death" was the verdict of the Rochester Deputy Coroner (Mr. Noel Boucher) at an inquest on George Thomas Nutter (72), of 103 Henry Street, Luton (Chatham) who was fatally injured in a collision at Luton Arches on the evening of June 7th.
It appeared that deceased, a pedestrian, in the employ of Messrs. A. E. Gammon, Ltd., wharfingers (Chatham) was knocked down by a motor-cyclist, Eric Harvey, of Walthamstow, who was proceeding to Sheerness, and then fell under the wheel of a G.P.O. lorry, driven by William James Tyler, of 90 Athelstan Road, Faversham, proceeding towards Faversham. He was dead on arrival at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Rochester, death being due to shock following cerebral contusion.
Giving evidence, Mr. Tyler said that he did not see deceased and that the first thing that he was aware of was a bump. He was exonerated from blame.
