  Research Notes:

In 1851 Owen Owens (38) of Llanfihangel, lead miner, quarryman, and wife Elizabeth (28) of Talyllyn, servant, were at the address of Hugh Pugh (24) of Talyllyn, farmer of 890 acres, in Cedris Merioneth.

In 1861 Owen Owen (49) of Towyn, gentleman farmer employing 2 labourers, and wife Elizabeth (38) of Talyllyn, were living in Brithdir Isaf, Merioneth. Present were step-children (born in Talyllyn): Elizabeth Pugh Lewis (17), Robert Pugh Lewis (12), Elinor Anwyl Owen (28) of Llanaber.

The Will of Owen Owen of Perthillwydion in the Parish of Dolgelley in the County of Merioneth, Gentleman, written 2 Oct 1865, proved 18 Aug 1866.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Owen Owen of Perthillwydion in the Parish of Dolgelley in the County of Merioneth Gentleman. I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences be fully Paid with all convenient speed after my decease and I subject in the first place my personal Estate and if the same should be insufficient my real Estate with the payment thereof I give and bequeath unto my dear Wife Elizabeth All the live and dead Stock that shall be on the farm of Perthillwydion aforesaid at the time of my death as well as all the furniture, Plate, China, Linen and other Effects that shall be in the house of Perthillwydion aforesaid for the term of her natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath all such furniture Plate China Linen and other Effects and such live and dead Stock as may be then on the said farm and premises (such live Stock to Consist of the same number of animals as the same may Consist of at the time of my decease) unto my own right heir for ever.

And it is my Will and I hereby direct that my said Wife shall reside at Perthillwydion aforesaid during the term of her natural life for so long as she may desire, Subject to the Payment of a reasonable Yearly rent to the Owner or Owners thereof for the time being.

I give and devise All that my Messuage or tenement and premises called Plasbeith situate in the Town of Dolgelley aforesaid unto and between my Sister Ellin and my Step daughter Elizabeth Lewis for and during the term of their joint natural lives and the life of the Survivor of them. And in case either of them shall marry in the life time of the other of them then I direct that the said Messuage or tenement and premises shall go to the other of them and in case they shall both become married then I give and devise the same to my own right heirs for ever and in case my said Sister and Step daughter shall both remain unmarried up to the time of their respective deaths then upon the decease of the Survivor of them the said Messuage or tenement and premises shall revert to my own right heir for ever, excepting as hereinafter is excepted.

I give and devise All other my real Estate of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever situate unto my brother William his heirs and assigns for ever but in case he shall die without lawful issue then I Give and devise the same unto my Brother Howell his heirs and assigns for ever. And in case he shall also die without lawful issue then I give and devise the same unto my own right heir absolutely for ever but it is my Will and I hereby direct that all and every my lawful heirs shall be preferred to the exclusion of John Hill now of Werngoch and Mary Ann his Wife and their issue and the respective heirs of such issue.

I give and bequeath to my Sister the said Mary Ann the Wife of the said John Hill the Sum of Five Pounds to be paid to her at the expiration of twelve Calendar Months from the time of my death. Lastly as to the rest residue and remainder of all personal Estate of what nature or Kind soever which I may die possessed of Subject as aforesaid I Give and bequeath the same unto my said dear Wife absolutely. And I hereby nominate Constitute and Appoint her my said Wife Sole Executrix of this my Will hereby revoking all former or other Wills by me at any time heretofore made.

I declare this to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have at the foot of this my Will Set my hand this Second day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and Sixty five.

Signed and declared by the said Owen Owen the Testator as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have Witnessed his Signature to the same and now Subscribe our names as Witnesses thereto.

Proved at St. Asaph on the 18th day of August 1866 by the Oath of Elizabeth Owen Widow the Relict the Sole Executrix to whom Administration was granted.

The Testator Owen Owen was late of Perthillwydion in the Parish of Dolgelley in the County of Merioneth Gentleman and died on the 13th day of April 1866 at Perthillwydion aforesaid.
