At the time of the 1861 England Census John Relf, age 35, born in St. Giles Middlesex, master butcher employing 1 boy, and wife Lydia, age 47, born in Hartley Row Hants, were living in London Road, Ash Surrey. With them was daughter Juliet (2) of Frimley Surrey.

At the time of the 1871 England Census John Smith Relf, age 45, born in St. Giles London, master butcher employing 1 man, and wife Lydia, age 57, born in Hartley Row Hants, were living in High Road, Frimley Surrey.
