In 1873 John Hoystrop Chandler was a witness at the marriage of his sister Katherine Anne to Henry Lavington.
In 1881 John H Chandler, aged 35, born in Swindon, draper, and wife Elizabeth F., aged 38, born in Bristol Somersetshire were living at 62 Prospect, Swindon. With them were children: Henry J. (9) of Devizes, scholar, Martin W. (7) of Devizes, scholar, Dorothy K. (5) of Devizes, scholar, Beatrice L. (4) of Wroughton, scholar, Hester (1) of Swindon.
In 1891 John H Chandler, aged 45, aged Swindon, draper, and wife Elizabeth F., aged 51, born in Bristol Gloucestershire were living at 1 Stratherne Villas, Devizes Rd., Swindon. With them were children: Henry J. (19), banker's clerk, Martin W. (17), chemist's apprentice, Dorothy K. (16), Beatrice L. (14), and niece Muriel L. Edkins (11) of Dalston, London.
In 1901 John H Chandler, aged 55, born in Swindon, draper - shopkeeper, and wife Elizabeth F., aged 61, born in Bristol Som. were living at 46 Devizes Rd., Swindon. Present were children: Henry J. (29), bank cashier, Dorothy K. (26), Beatrice L. (24).
In October 1902 John Hoystrop Chandler, draper, was granted Probate of his late father's personal effects.
In September 1905 John Hoystrop Chandler was present at the marriage of his son Martin William Chandler to Lilian Eliza Mays Eldridge in Hastings Sussex.
In 1911 John Hoystrop Chandler, aged 65, born in Swindon, draper (employer), and wife of 44 years Elizabeth Fitzhugh, aged 69, born in Bristol Gloster (mother of 6 children 2 deceased) were living at 35 Wood Street, Swindon. With them were children: Dorothy Kate (36), single, Beatrice Lucy Rivers (34), married (3 years with 2 children), granchildren Elizabeth Frances Rivers (19 months) of Chingford Essex, Anthony Rivers (3 months) of Chingford Essex.

Death of a Former Swindon Tradesman.
News was received in Swindon on Tuesday of the death of Mr. J. H. Chandler, a well-known Swindonian of former years. He passed away in a nursing home on Sunday at Chingford, where he had been residing for some years. He was 84 years old.
Mr. Chandler was a son of the late Mr. John Chandler, who established the business of Chandler Bros., of Wood Street.
Mr. Chandler had been living in retirement at Chingford for many years, but used occasionally to pay a visit to Swindon.
Mr. Chandler's wife died some years ago, but he leaves a family of two sons and two daughters.
Though never taking an active part in the public life of the town, Mr. Chandler was an ardent Churchman, associated with the Swindon Parish Church.
He was also a prominent Freemason.
He was a Justice of the Peace for the borough.
