Thomas Marks of Connor Downs died aged 16 years (burial record).

DEATH FROM LOCK-JAW, CAUSED BY A BROKEN TOE.—On Thursday week last Francis and Thomas Marks, brothers who live at Connor Downs, were engaged in cutting a plat in the 60-fathoms level of Wheal Emily Henrietta mine, in Illogan. About three o'clock in the morning two hundred weight of ground suddenly fell away at the back of the plat, and fell principally on the left foot of Thomas Marks, who is 16 years old. The great toe was fractured and the foot otherwise severely injured. He was got to the surface as quickly as possible, and Dr. Michell attended him. In six hours he was at home again, and every attention paid him, but he lingered until Thursday night last, when he died, tetanus having come on the day previous. An inquest was held on Saturday before John Roscorla, Esq., County Coroner, and a verdict returned of accidental death.
