Lavinia infant daughter of William Francis Marks of Bullers Row, miner, and Elizabeth (baptismal record)

------------------------

In 1891 Lavinia Marks, aged 22, born in Redruth Cornwall, tailoress, was with her parents in Portreath Rd., Redruth.

In 1901 Lavinia Glasson, aged 27 years, born in Redruth Cornwall, and husband Edward J. Glasson, aged 22 years, born in Gwinear Cornwall, labourer on explor. works, were living in Connor Downs, Gwithian.

In May 1906 Lavinia Glasson (wife of Edward Jennings Glasson) was granted Probate of the personal effects of her late brother William Marks of Gilbert Coombe.

In the 1910 U.S. Federal Census Lavinia Glasson, aged 35, born in England, no children, and husband Edward Glasson, aged 31, born in England, wagon express, were living in San Diego township, San Diego county, California, USA. Staying with them was Edward's brother William Glasson (24) of England.

------------------------

The California death records show Lavinia's birth year as 1872 which is incorrect. The possibility that William and Elizabeth had two daughters named Lavinia, one having died young, can be ruled out based on the evidence. The first five children of William and Elizabeth were christened together on 5 Jun 1870 in Redruth, Lavinia being the youngest of them, born during the December quarter of 1869. Once married, Lavinia understated her age by a few years in each Census, both in England and in America. The California death registration for Lavinia Glasson shows not only her maiden name but her mother's maiden name, both of which are correct. One can only speculate as to the discrepancy; Lavinia was in fact almost a decade older than her husband, insofar as this bore any significance.

  Marriage Information:

Lavinia married Edward Jennings Glasson, son of Thomas Glasson and Elizabeth Jennings, in 1898 in the Redruth District, Cornwall. (Edward Jennings Glasson was born on 19 Dec 1878 in Gwinear, Cornwall, died on 24 Aug 1962 in Saint Petersburg, Pinellas Co., FL, USA and was buried in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, San Diego, CA, USA.)
