In 1901 William James Bant, aged 30, born in Sancreed Cornwall, stone breaker (own account), and wife Sarah Jane Bant, aged 26, born in Madron Cornwall, were living in Churchtown, Madron. With them were daughter Florence (11 months) of Madron, and father-in-law James Curnow (67) of Gulval, widower, labourer.

FUNERAL OF MR. WILLIAM BANT, MADRON

The funeral of Mr. William Bant took place at Madron on Wednesday afternoon, amidst every token of respect, a very large number attending from all parts of the parish. The coffin was preceded by members of the Madron Cricket Club, and the Madron Working Men's Institute, of which Mr. Bant was captain and secretary respectively..... MADRON.
An interesting presentation, though coupled with a feeling of sadness and regret took place at the Madron Working Men's Institute on Friday evening, when the photograph of the late Mr. William Bant, who at the time of his death was secretary to the Institute and captain of the cricket club, was presented to the Institute. The photograph which is a lovely picture 27 by 22 inches was subscribed by the members of both the Institute and Cricket Club, to place in the Institute in memory of their late, greatly respected and esteemed secretary and captain....
