Family name also spelled CADYE, CADDYE, CADDEY.
----------------------------
William's parents were living in the coastal parish of Gunwalloe from as early as 1634 when their daughter Elizabeth was born, and they were there at the time of the Protestation Return in 1642. By 1664 the family had moved about 6½ miles north to Wendron. If William was born before the move, then he was native to Gunwalloe.
----------------------------
In 1667 Willyam Caddey was a beneficiary of the will of his maternal grandmother Elizabeth Stephen of Gunwalloe who left him 20 shillings.
In September 1690 William Caddy of the borough of Helston, yeoman, was granted Administration of his mother's goods, chattels & credits. 2
----------------------------
It should be noted here that a contemporary of William was William Caddy of Gunwalloe whose wife's name was Jone and whose children were born in Cury and Gunwalloe from 1708. William Caddy of Gunwalloe died in 1718. Given William Caddy of Helston spent his early years in Gunwalloe, it is likely the two Williams were related. Not quite a generation separates when William Caddy of Helston and William Caddy of Gunwalloe had famlies, allowing for the possibility they were uncle and nephew respectively. But this remains speculative.
