Edwin fought in the Boer War as one of Australia's Mounted Infantry, having already had considerable experience with the Victorian Rangers. He returned after 12 months of service, and was awarded an inscribed gold watch.
Edwin died age 64 years of a heart attack, while fencing on his property in Learmonth Road, Wendouree.
