" DEATH OF MB. E. B. MOYLE
Ah old and respected citizen and public officer, in the person of Mr. E. B. Moyle, Inspector of Traffic, Nuisances, and Weights and Measures to the Rockhampton Council, died yesterday.
Mr. Moyle was bom in Adelaide, South Australia, on the 2nd of April, 1850, and was, therefore, nearly sixty years of age. His parents emigrated from Cornwall to Adelaide and later removed to Ballarat, Victoria. Mr. Moyle's father was a mining captain ; but opened a butchering business at Durham, near Ballarat. When his son was old enough, he took him into the business. In 1873, however, Mr. Moyle left Ballarat for Rockhampton, where he was employed for eighteen months by the Lake's Creek Company, which was then managed by the late Mr. A. Bertram. Afterwards Mr. Moyle was in the employ of Mr. Alexander Grant, timber merchant, Rockhampton, managing tlic business. He retained the management of the yard after Mr. Grant disponed of thc business to Mr. J. Johnson. Later Mr. Moyle became manager of Messrs. Wilson, Hart, and Co. a timberyard ; but returned, after some years, to manage the former business of Mr. Grant, which by this time had come into the hands of Mr. S. Johnson. About fourteen years ago Mr. Moyle was appointed Inspector of Traffic and Nuisances to the Rockhampton Council, and he held those offices up till the time of his death, actively discharging the duties until a few weeks ago. He was also for some years Inspector of Dairies in the municipality, and latterly he was appointed Inspector of Weights and Measures.
Before he became an officer of the Rockhampton Council, Mr. Moyle was a member of the Council for nine years. It was, however, principally in connection with the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows that he was best known. He. waa thc Provincial Corresponding Secretary of the Rockhampton district of the order for over twenty-six years. He joined the Oddfellows in Ballarat in 1872 and was a Past Grand on his arrival in Rockhampton. Mr. Moyle was also a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, being a past Master of Leichhardt Lodge No.932 E.C. Thc deceased gentleman also acted for some years as Retuming Officer for Rockhampton. Mr. Moyle was a prominent member of thc Methodist Church, particularly identifying himself with the Campbell-street Church, of the Sunday school of which he was superintendent for many years. He was likewise a member of the Cemetery Trust, and, for a number of years, a trustee and director of the Central Queensland Co-operative Baking Society.
Mr. Moyle was married, in 1875, to Miss Wearne, of Ballarat, and has left a widow and two sons and three daughters. Mrs. McDonald, wife of Mr. W. McDonald, of Messrs, Watson and McDonald, and Mrs. T. Peterkin, of New Zealand, who visited Rockhampton a few weeks ago, are sisters of the deceased, and other members of his family are still residents of Ballarat..." 3
