  Research Notes:

Agnes had a sister Eleanor, born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, with whom Agnes's eldest daughter, also named Eleanor, was staying in 1851. At this time Agnes's said sister, who never married, was aged 77 years. She was christened on 26 Dec 1773 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, daughter of George Palmer. Hence it follows that Agnes was also the daughter of George Palmer. A George Palmer married Margaret Brewhouse in 1765 in Berwick-upon-Tweed and originally I thought these would most likely have been the parents of Agnes and Eleanor. However, on discovering that Agnes died in 1826 at the age of 64 (i.e. born in or about 1762), Margaret would not have been Agnes's mother and, moreover, it is unlikely that Agnes's and Eleanor's father, George, was the same George Palmer who married Margaret Brewhouse, as that George Palmer was born in 1746 (in Berwick-upon-Tweed), although it is remotely possible that Agnes's father married twice. If he did, then he would have been at most 16 years old when he first married. The alternative is that Eleanor's age on her tombstone has been overstated.

  Marriage Information:

Agnes married John Pilmoor, son of William Pilmour and Jean Appleby, on 28 Dec 1787 in Lamerton, Mordington, Berwickshire, Scotland 1. (John Pilmoor was born in 1756 in Gray Stone, Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland, christened on 11 Oct 1756 in Gray Stone, Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland and was buried on 29 Apr 1835 in Holy Trinity, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, aged 79 years.)

  Marriage Notes:

John Pilmoor, slater, and Agnes Palmer, both of Berwick, were married at Lamerton in Scotland, December 28th, 1787, by M. Blackhale, min'r
