At the time of the 1891 England Census Emily S Boakes, age 23, born in Chart Sutton Kent, and husband Thomas Boakes, age 28, born in Cowden Kent, agricultural labourer, were living at no. 1 Elses Cottage, Sevenoaks Weald, Sevenoaks Kent. With them was daughter Edith F (7 months) of Ide Hill.
At the time of the 1911 England Census Emily Sarah Boakes, age 43, born in Chart Sutton Kent (mother of 7 children, 3 deceased), and husband of 22 years Thomas Boakes, age 48, born in Cowden Kent, bricklayer's labourer, were living in Whitewood Cottages, Eynsford Kent. With them were children (born in Eynsford): Elsie May (12), school, Emily May (9), school, Bessie Alice (6), school, and Sydney Frank (3).
In the 1939 Register Emily S Boakes (b. 8 Nov 1867), unpaid domestic duties, and husband Thomas Boakes (b. 12 Jun 1862), domestic gardener, were living at 4 Whitewood Cottages, Eynsford Kent. At the same address were [children] Bessie A Boakes (b. 24 Aug 1904), size parter paper mill, [one record closed], and [granddaughter] Joan A Boakes (b. 14 Apr 1921), single, domestic servant.

THE LATE MRS. E. S. BOAKES.—The death occurred on Friday of Mrs. Emily Sarah Boakes, aged 71 years, wife of Mr. T. Boakes, of Whitewood Cottages, Eynsford. Before coming to live at Eynsford over 40 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boakes resided in Sevenoaks Weald.

THE LATE MRS. E. S. BOAKES.—The funeral took place at the Eynsford Parish Church on Wednesday week of Mrs. Emily Sarah Boakes, of Whitewood Cottages. The mourners were Mr. Thomas Boakes, Mr. and Mrs. S. Boakes, Mrs. G. Talbot, Mrs. D. Pryde, Miss B. Boakes, Miss J. Boakes, Mr. E. Britcher, Mr. G. Talbot, Mr. and Mrs. H. Boakes, Mrs. Gilham. Members of the Eynsford Mothers' Union and Women's Institute were present.
