At the time of the 1871 England Census Jane Jackson, aged 26, born in Cheltenham Gloucestershire, certified teacher, and husband Thomas Jackson, aged 26, born in Wyke Cleckheaton Yorkshire, certified teacher, were living in St. Mary Glamorgan Wales. With them were sons (born in Cardiff Glamorgan) Ernest M (1) and Joseph N (4 months).

At the time of the 1880 U.S. Census Jane Jackson, aged 35, born in England, housekeeper, and husband Thomas J. Jackson, aged 36, born in England, farmer, were living in Beverly Manor, Augusta, Virginia. With them were children (born in England) Earnest M. (11), Joseph N. (9), Winnifred (8), and born in Virginia: John N (5), Julia (3), Jessie (2) and Harriet (11 months).
