A writ after the death of "Ada alias Eda de Baylliol alias de Baillol", dated "8 Sep 35 Hen III", and later inquisitions record that "Stokesley Manor was given by Sir Hugh de Balloil in free marriage to Ada his daughter who, after the death of her husband, enfeoffed Hugh and Robert her sons thereof", that "the said Lady Ada died at Stokesley on Saturday after St James the Apostle, 35 Hen III" and that "the said Hugh took and held seisin of the said manor, in the name of himself and his brother, until expelled". 1

The king has granted the manor of Iver with appurtenances to Ada, who was the wife of John son of Robert , until a certain dower has been assigned to her from the lands formerly of the same John, escheats and wards having been retained in the king's hand if any fall in in the same manor in the meanwhile.

To the king's escheators in Essex and Hertfordshire . Because the executors of the testament of John son of Robert have given the king surety by John de Balliol and Ada, who was the wife of the aforesaid John , that John and Ada will render a moiety of all debt that John owed the king at Easter in 15 days in the twenty-fifth year and the other moiety at St. John the Baptist in 15 days in the same year at the Exchequer, London, order to permit Ada and the aforesaid executors to have full administration of all goods and chattels formerly of the same John in their bailiwick .

Ada, who was the wife of John son of Robert , has made fine with the king by 2000 marks for having the custody of the land and heirs of the aforesaid John, namely of Hugh and Roger, together with their marriage, of which 2000 m. she is to render 333 marks 4s. 5d. at Michaelmas in the twenty-fifth year, 333 marks 4s. 5d. at Easter in the twenty-sixth year, and 666 marks 8s. 10½d. thus from year to year at the same terms until the aforesaid debt is paid.

the minority of Roger and Hugh the heirs, of the lands of the said John
and of the said heirs, with the marriage of the said heirs, for 2,000 marks, whereof she shall pay yearly 666 marks, 8s. 10½d. to wit 833 marks, 4s. 5½d. at Easter in the twenty-sixth year, and 333 marks, 4s. 5d. at each succeeding half year, until the whole be paid.

YORK. Stokesley manor was given by Sir Hugh de Balloil in free marriage to Ada his daughter, who, after the death of her husband, enfeoffed Hugh and Robert her sons thereof in 34 Hen. III, who afterwards delivered it to their mother to farm for life for 40s. rent. The said Lady Ada died at Stokesley on Saturday after St. James the Apostle, 35 Hen. II, and the said Hugh took and held seisin of the said manor, in the name of himself and his brother, until expelled by the king's letters (about the feast of St.) Bartholomew in the same year.

Appointment of William de Valencia, the king's brother, to hold the
manors of Linton and Neuburn and Wauton, which Ada de Baillolo held in dower and marriage, and whatever she had in the manor of Stockele, with the rent and vaccary which she had at Corebrug during the minority of the heirs of Roger son of John; on condition that the amount of the extent thereof be deducted from the fee of the said William at the Exchequer. Also if the king have a better right to the wardship of the manor of Evere, late of the said Ada, than R. earl of Cornwall, the said William shall hold the said manor by like extent.

Grant to William de Valencia, the king's brother, of the wardship of all the lands late of Roger son of John, extended at £120 19s. 8½d.; and of all the lands which Ada de Bayllol, mother of the said Roger, held in dower of the fee of the said lands, extended at £111 6d.; on condition that these sums be deducted from his fee of 500 marks a year at the Exchequer ; and grant that he may assign this wardship to whomsoever he will if he should die before the full age of the said heirs.
