Simmons, age 6, born in Shermanbury Sussex, was with his parents Amos Sayers & Ellen, and younger siblings John Sayers (5), Ellen Sayers (3) and Fanny Sayers (7 months), in Woodmancote Sussex. Amos Sayers, bachelor, married Ellen Simmonds, spinster, in Dec 1874, making Ernest William Simmons Ellen's natural-born son (though given Amos and Ellen married just over 4 months after Ernest was born it is entirely possible Amos was Ernest's biological father).
