RINGMER'S OLDEST INHABITANT.
DEATH OF MRS. NAOMI FIEST.
Ringmer's oldest inhabitant, Mrs. Naomi Fiest, of Southdown Villa, was laid to rest in the churchyard on Monday. Mrs. Fiest passed away on Tuesday of last week after an illness of nearly two years, during which time she had been confined to her bed. If she had lived until the 11th of next month she would have been 98. A native of Ringmer, she had resided at Southdown Villa for over 50 years. She was the wife of Mr. Charles Huggett Fiest, who died on June 30th, 1875, at the age of 51. There is only one daughter, who is married, and resides at Southwick. There are eight grand-children living, one was killed in the war.
In her younger days Mrs. Fiest was a church worker, and a regular attendant up to the time when her failing health prevented her being present. She also took a great interest in the life of the village, and had endeared herself to many.
The Vicar (the Rev. G. R. Leefe) conducted the funeral service. The interment was preceded by a service in the church, at which the hymn, "O God, our Help in Ages Past," was sung. Mrs. Fiest was buried in the same grave as her husband. The mourners included Mrs. Message (daughter) and a number of grand-children, Mrs. Bridge (a very old friend), Mr. and Mrs. Aldridge, Mr. Packham, Mr. Carey (Ringmer), Mrs. Fewage and Miss Carey. Many other friends were also present. There were some beautiful floral tributes, the inscription on which were as follows:— "In fondest love and memory, from Fred, Edie and family"; "With all true sympathy, from Alf and Kitty"; "From Ted and family and your Edie, with dearest love"; "In loving memory of dear Aunt, from Annie and Kate"; "In loving remembrance, from your nephew and Nellie"; "Sweetest memory and loving friendship, with love from Belle"; "In affectionate remembrance, from Arthur and Carrie (grand-children)"; "From Syd, Alice and May, with fondest love to dear Grandma"; "In affectionate remembrance, from great grand-sons Douglas and George"; "Dear Grandma, from her great grand-sons and baby Peggy"; "With love from Laura and Ern, Mable and Bert (grand-children)"; "With kind remembrance, from friends at Elm Grove"; "With sincere sympathy, from an old friend, Mrs. O.
