At the time of the 1891 England Census Arthur Message, age 8, born in Little Horsted, scholar, was with his parents in Plashett House, Little Horsted Sussex.
At the time of the 1901 England Census Arthur D Message, age 18, single, domestic gardener, was boarding in Blakers, Little Horsted, Sussex.
At the time of the 1911 England Census Arthur Douglas Message, age 28, born in Little Horsted Sussex, domestic gardener, and wife Caroline, age 28, born in Long Sutton Lincolnshire (mother of 1 child), were living in Hills Crow Lodge, Nutfield Road, Redhill Surrey. With them was son Henry Douglas (6) of High Town, Yorkshire, school.
In Oct 1918 Arthur Douglas Message was present at the marriages of his sisters Kate Message and May Message to Alfred Meeten and James Meeten in Wiston Sussex.
In the 1939 Register Arthur D Message (b. 26 Sep 1882), school caretaker, and wife Caroline Message (b. 21 Mar 1882), unpaid domestic duties, were living at 23 Commercial Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire. At the same address were [grandchildren] Emily Message (b. 4 Feb 1929), at school, and one record officially closed.
In Jun 1940 Arthur Douglas Message, caretaker, was granted Probate of his late mother's personal effects.

DEATH OF MR. A. D. MESSAGE
Spalding Bantam Fancier
Caretaker of Spalding Council school, Westlode Street, for 30 years, Mr. Arthur Douglas Message, of 23, Commercial Road, Spalding, died on Friday. Mr. Message, who was 70, retired last October, and had been ill for some time.
He had been a keen gardener, and had also won many Lincolnshire Poultry Club cups with his bantams. He was a member of both the Spalding and Pinchbeck Fur and Feather Societies, and competed in partnership with Mr. Norman Parkinson.
Mr. Message originated from Sussex, and served with the Royal Fusiliers during the first world war.
He leaves a widow and two sons.
THE FUNERAL
The funeral took place on Monday, a service at the parish church preceding the interment.
Mourners were the widow, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Message and Mr. and Mrs. G. Message (sons and daughters-in-law), Emily, Ray, Don and Nora (grandchildren), Mrs. H. Balmforth and Mr. and Mrs. A. Herring (brother-in-law and sisters-in-law), Mr. Harry Balmforth (nephew), Mrs. Toliday (cousin), Mr. N. Parkinson, Mr. J. Waltham, Mr. H. White, Mr. Burrell, Mr. Nead, Mr. S. Lamming, Mr. T.
