In 1851 John Jones (27) of Llanddwywe, farmer of 195 acres occupying 3 labr., and wife Sarah (28) of Trawsfynydd were living in Cae gwyn, Trawsfynydd, Merioneth. Present were children (born in Trawsfynydd): Richard Morris (4), Laura (11 m).
In 1861 John Jones (36) of Llanddwywe, farmer of 1610 acres employing 6 men & 4 boys, and wife Sarah (38) of Llanaber were living in Maesypandy, Cedris, Talyllyn. Present were children: Richard (14) of Trawsfynydd, John (4) Talyllyn, Silvanus (2) of Talyllyn, Evan (11mo) of Talyllyn. [Sister Anne Pugh and her family were living nearby in Rhiwogo.]

In 1881 John Jones (57) of Trawsfynydd, farmer of 295 acres, and wife Sarah (63) of Llangwyfan Denbigh were living in Tynycornel Hotel Talyllyn Merioneth. Present were daughters Mary* (23) of Liverpool Lancashire & Maggie* (22) of Llanfihangel y Pennant Merioneth.
* As Mary and Maggie do not appear in the early Censuses with John (who does not appear to have spent time in either Liverpool Lancs. or Llanfihangel-y-Pennant), they were presumably children of his 2nd wife Sarah from an earlier marriage.
