At the time of the 1871 England Census Thomas Dearing, aged 27, born in Heathfield Sussex, unmarried, labourer, was boarding with Samuel Curtis, farmer, in Banack House, Heathfield. Thomas's sister Keziah Dearing was the housekeeper.
