Joane Taylor

  • Born: Abt 1580, Heathfield, Sussex, England
  • Married (1): Abt 1604
  • Married (2): 30 Aug 1608, Heathfield, Sussex, England 1 2
  • Died: Before 26 Nov 1626, Heathfield, Sussex, England 3

  Research Notes:

In 1609 Joan Deering was the sole executrix of the Will of her husband Christopher Deering of Hellingly.

In 1619 Joane the wife of Robert Luckas received 20 shillings from her father's Will.

Joane's sister Susan Tayler wrote her Will in 1638, in which she makes a bequest to her 'godson' John Dearing son of Christopher Dearing. In the context of how Susan used 'godson' and 'goddaughter' when writing her Will, John Deering was her nephew (actually, grandnephew). This provides an indirect confirmation that widow Joane Deering who married Robert Luckas was the widow of Christopher Deering, whose only son, also Christopher, was the father of the said John who was about 4 years old in 1638.

  Marriage Information:

Joane married Christopher Dearing about 1604. (Christopher Dearing was buried on 5 May 1608 in Hellingly, Sussex, England.)

  Marriage Information:

Joane also married Robert Luckas on 30 Aug 1608 in Heathfield, Sussex, England. (Robert Luckas was buried on 15 Apr 1637 in Chiddingly, Sussex, England.)

  Marriage Notes:

Robert Lucas of Chittingly, weaver, and Joan Deering of Heathfield, widow: sureties: Robert Lucas of Chittingly, weaver, and John Hooke of Maresfield, weaver, for marriage at Heathfield, licence issued 27 Aug 1608. 2

3 Joane's uncle, Thomas Taylor of Battle, wrote his Will on 26 Nov 1626. Having no children of his own he made bequests to all his nephews and nieces then living. Of the children of his brother James Taylor, Joane is the only one not named, pointing to the likelihood that she died before then.
