Writing his Will in Jun 1824 John Callaway of Newington, yeoman, bequeathed to his grandson John Callaway £100, to be paid to him when he turns twenty-four. John inherited from his grandfather his dwelling house and adjoining premises in Newington following the death of his parents, with the exception of the cottage adjoining the workshop and the part of the garden associated with it.

At the time of the 1851 England Census John Callaway, age 43, born in Newington Kent, unmarried, carpenter, was with his widowed father in Newington next Sittingbourne Kent.

At the time of the 1861 England Census John Callaway, aged 53, born in Newington Kent, carpenter, and Mary Ann, aged 54, born in Chatham Kent, were living in London Road, Newington.

At the time of the 1871 England Census John Callaway, aged 63, born in Newington Kent, carpenter, and Mary Ann, aged 64, born in Chatham Kent, were living in London Road, Newington.
