In 1810 James Blackman son of John Blackman deceased received £1,000 from the Will of his cousin James Bristed of Warbleton, gent.

At the time of the 1841 England Census James Blackman, aged about 60, ind[ependent], was at the address of William & Frances Elphick in Lord Hill, Hooe Sussex.

Abstract of the Will of James Blackman of Hove in the County of Sussex, Yeoman, written 11 Jun 1841, proved 2 Feb 1842. 2

Appoints Henry Chrismas of Heathfield, farmer, and Thomas Chrismas of Bexhill, farmer, co-executors of his will.

Gives £200 to Elizabeth Randall, servant to Joseph Bonnick of Waldron, acknowledging that she is his natural child, the said sum to be paid to her once she reaches the age of 21 years.

Gives £200 to his niece Harriett the wife of Edward Davey of Brighton, butcher.

All the rest of his personal estate and effects he gives to his nephews Henry Chrismas, Thomas Chrismas, Stephen Chrismas and Charles Chrismas, to be divided equally between them.
