At the time of the 1911 England Census Annie Carey, age 17, born in Ringmer, farmer's daughter domestic, was with her father in Broyle Side Farm, Ringmer Sussex.

SAD END OF LEWES YOUNG WOMAN.
After sending a message to her brother, Mr. Charles Carey, of Ringmer, asking forgiveness for her action, Miss Annie Elizabeth Carey entered the sea at Brighton, where her body was found on the beach. Deceased was a single woman, aged 26, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Edward Carey, of Broyle Side Farm, Ringmer, and had been lodging at 4, Grange-road, Lewes. She was formerly a typist at the Lewes Food Office, but had been out of employment for some weeks. In a letter she said she was tired of life. It was stated at the inquest that deceased had a love affair some years ago. Death was due to drowning, and a verdict of "Suicide while temporarily insane" was returned.
The funeral took place at the Ringmer Parish Church on Tuesday, the Vicar (the Rev. G. R. Leefe) officiating....
