Writing his Will in Jan 1792 Joseph Akehurst of Beddingham, shepherd, bequeathed to his daughter Frances the wife of William Stephens of Westfirle, his copyhold cottage in Alfriston which had originally been the estate of Sarah Machen and William Akehurst, children of Joseph's brother William.
