'William natural son of Sarah Akehurst' was christened less than a month before Sarah's marriage to Henry Machine (otherwise Machen). It is possible that Henry was William's father.

Writing his Will in Jan 1792 Joseph Akehurst of Beddingham, shepherd, bequeathed to his daughter Frances the wife of William Stephens of Westfirle his copyhold cottage in Alfriston which had originally been the estate of Sarah Machen and William Akehurst, children of Joseph's brother William.
