At the time of the 1891 England Census John Luckens, age 19, born in Newick Sussex, baker, was with his parents at 4 Combers Drive Lindfield Sussex.
At the time of the 1911 England Census John Luckens, age 37, born in Newick Sussex, grocer & baker, and wife of 14 years Rhoda, age 35, born in Chailey Sussex (mother of 4 children), were living in Scaynes Hill, Haywards Heath Sussex. With them were children (born in Lindfield): May (13), school, Edward (9), Ruth (6), Ernest (4).

FUNERAL OF MR. J. J. LUCKENS.
A FORMER TRADESMAN AT SCAYNES HILL.
A large number of people paid tribute to the memory of Mr. John Joseph Luckens, of Jubilee House, Scaynes Hill, by their attendance at the funeral on Wednesday afternoon.
As was recorded in our last issue, Mr. Luckens, whose age was 67, died on November 5th after a long illness.
At an early age he started in business as a baker, and was at Burgess Hill for two years before going to Scaynes Hill in 1890. After a time he incorporated with his business at Scaynes Hill that of a grocer, and he also became the local Sub-Postmaster. He retired two years ago in favour of his son (Mr. E. E. Luckens). Deceased was formerly for several years a member of the Lindfield Parish Council and during the Great War he was a special constable. He was also a member of the Scaynes Hill Horticultural Society.
The first part of the funeral service was held in the Scaynes Hill Strict Baptist Chapel, which was filled with people.
Pastor D. H. R. Walter officiated and gave a touching address. Prayer was led by Mr. J. W. Crowter, of Hassocks.
The interment was in Walstead Cemetery.
