In 1802 Richard Tompson was a beneficiary of the Will of his aunt Mary Washbourn of Wootton Bassett, widow.

In 1806 Richard Thompson was a beneficiary of the Will of his uncle John Woolley of Bishops Cleeve.

In 1834 Richard Tompson was named as late deceased in a codicil to the Will of his aunt Elizabeth Bradford of Swindon, widow.

On Sunday last, at Swindon, after long and most painful sufferings, Mr. Richard Tompson, formerly of Wootton Bassett.

Abstract of the Will of Richard Tompson formerly of Wootton Bassett but now of Swindon in the County of Wilts, Gentleman, written 7 Aug 1832, proved 24 Apr 1833. 3

Desires to be buried in the same vault in the parish of Wootton Bassett as his late mother.

Gives and devises to his aunt Elizabeth Bradford of Swindon, widow, all his lands, tenements and hereditaments for her use during the term of her natural life. After her decease he gives and devises to Joseph Fisher of Prestbury in the county of Gloucester and to his wife Sarah and their heirs his tenement and a cottage in High Street Wootton Bassett, for the terms of their natural lives, along with such quantity of timber growing on his estate at Lea, Cleverton and Purton as necessary to effect repairs on said tenement. He also gives and bequeaths to Joseph Fisher and Sarah his wife £100.

Gives and devises to John Capel formerly of Prestbury but now of Gretton near Winchcomb in co. Gloucester, esquire, and to Susan his wife, his freehold lands, tenements and hereditaments in the parishes of Lea, Cleverton and Purton, immediately following the death of the said Elizabeth Bradford, for the term of their natural lives.

Gives and bequeaths to the said John Capel and to his friend Cornelius Bradford in Midgehall in co. Wilts, gent. all his ready money, money in public funds and mortgages, to receive the interest and dividends in trust, paying £200 each to William Greening, Charles Greeening, Richard Greening and Mary Ann Greening, the orphan children of William Greening late of Gretton and Elizabeth his wife, both deceased, when they each reach the age of twenty-one years.

Out of the said trust monies he gives and bequeaths £200 to Walter Titcombe, natural son of Mary Smith of Wroughton in co. Wilts, formerly Mary Titcombe, spinster, to be paid to him once he reaches the age of twenty-one years.

From the remainder of the trust monies he gives £30 to John Page of Kingsbury Street in the town nof Marlborough, broker; £10 to the aforesaid Mary Smith née Titcombe; £10 to his aunt's servant Elizabeth Thatcher; £20 to his late servant Elizabeth Sheldon; £10 to Mrs. Alicia Hatt of Swindon, widow; £5 to Mary Henly of Wootton Bassett widow of Robert Henly formerly of the same place; £5 to John and Sally Taylor of Wootton Bassett; and the residue to the said John Capel.

His household linen he divides into three parts, giving one third to the said John Capel and Susan his wife, one third to the said Joseph Fisher and Sarah his wife, and one third to be divided between the orphaned children of William Greening and Elizabeth his wife, deceased.

Gives to John Capel his gold repeater watch, requesting that, following the death of John the said watch be bequeathed to John's son as an heirloom.

Gives to his trustee Cornelius Bradford his silver gilt watch.

Appoints the said John Capel and the said Cornelius Bradford co-executors of his last will and testament.
