On 22 May 1505 John Pachyng was one of the jurors in a Coroner's Inquest in Horsham into the murder of William Gorney, to wit:
About 11 am on 20 Apr. when William Gorney late of Ewell in Surrey pinr, was at Crawley, Walter Melers came and murdered him, giving him a mortal wound on the head 3 inches long and 1½ inches deep with 2 staves which he held in his right hand, throwing him to the ground and cutting his throat with a knife which he held in his right hand. Gorney immediately died. Melers feloniously carried off his goods and merchandise worth 30s.

Gives and bequeaths 12 pence to the cathedral church of Chichester, and 4 pence to the high altar of the church of Horsham for tithes forgotten.
Gives and bequeaths 20 marks sterling to his wife Agnes, along with a featherbed and mattress.
Gives and bequeaths 40 shillings to Agnes, goddaughter to his wife Agnes, toward her marriage.
Gives and bequeaths 6s. 8d. to his servant Walter Combre.
Gives and bequeaths £40 to his son Henry.
The residue of his goods and chattels he gives and bequeaths to his sons Thomas Pachyng and Richard Pachyng to be equally divided between them, making them co-executors of his last will and testament.
Witnesses: Sir William Westen, priest and curate of Horsham, William Danyell, Richard Lynted, Richard Barwyke, Richard Pachyng, John Pachyng of Horsham, and others.
Makes William Danyell, clerk of Horsham, overseer of his last will and testament, paying him 6s. 8d. for his efforts.
As to the disposition of his lands, he wills that his feoffees, his heir and his executor uphold his wife Agnes’s right to those lands given to her by deed for the term of her natural life. Wills that his son Richard called Whetelandes and a parcell of land called Crokhurst which he bought from Thomas Manncell and also two crofts and a garden called Tomys Crofts to him and his heirs. He also wills that Richard shall have a croft called Horshams Hyll which he lately purchased from Richard Manncell.
Also wills that his son John Pachyng shall have his tenement called Bottyngs in the parish of Nuthurst and a tenement with adjoining lands in the parish of West Grinstead called Litill Fullers and a plot of land in the parish of Nuthurst called Lytill Colmans.
Also he wills to Sir Matthew Browne, knight, and to Henry Pachyng his son all his right and title
of debts and lands which he has by right of Thomas Shurley, that is to say, lands called Bokers in the parish of West Grinstead and lands called Lityll Fullers and the rents thereof which the said Thomas Shurley has withheld for two and a half years to the value of 20 shillings a year.
Gives and bequeaths to his godson Thomas Pachyng a cow.
