In 1647 Thomas Burtenshawe of Cookefeild was appointed one of the overseers of the Will of his father-in-law William Bull of Bolney, being paid 5 shillings for his efforts.
On 8 Nov 1653 Thomas's father, John Burtenshaw the elder of Misbrookes, was buried in Cuckfield.

Gives and bequeaths 10 shillings each to his grandchildren Thomas Ives and Elizabeth Ives (being children of the said Henery Ives by Thomas's daughter Susan deceased).
Gives and bequeaths 10 shillings each to his grandchildren John Holford, Jacob Holford, William Holford, Elizabeth Holford, Anne Holford, Mary Holford, and Susanna Holford.
Gives and bequeaths 10 shillings each to the seven children of his son-in-law Petter Hills by Thomas's daughter Joane deceased.
Gives and bequeaths 10 shillings each to the children of his eldest son Thomas Burtenshaw.
Gives and bequeaths 12 pence each to his sons John Burtenshaw, Henery Burtenshaw and Richard Burtenshaw.
