  Research Notes:

A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey names “dominus Humfredus sextus de Bohun, dominus de Brekenok” as the son of “Henricus [mistake for Humfredus] quintus de Bohun comes Hereford et Essex et constabularius Angliæ et dominus Henricus de Bohun” and his wife “Matildem filiam comitis de Ewe in Normannia”.

A manuscript which narrates the descents of the founders of Lanthony Abbey records that “dominus Humfredus sextus de Bohun, dominus de Brekenok” was captured at the battle of Evesham and taking to “castellum de Bystone juxta Cestriam” where he died “in vigilia sanctorum Simonis et Judæ”, adding that he was buried “in abbathia de Cumbremere”. A writ dated 21 Feb "51 Hen III", after the death of "Humphrey de Boun", names "Humphrey son of the said Humphrey and Eleanor his wife, aged 18 1/2 , is heir". 1

HUMPHREY DE BOHUN, Knt., of Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, Debden and Walden, Essex, Southam and Wheathurst, Gloucestershire, etc., and, in right of his 2nd wife, of Ware, Hertfordshire, Governor of Goodrich and Winchester Castles, Keeper of the Island and Castle of Lundy, son and heir apparent....

In 1249 he and his wife, Eleanor, sued Maurice de Berkeley in a plea of warranty. In 1257 he was ordered to assist his father to keep the marches between Montgomery and the land of the earl of Gloucester. He witnessed a charter of his father to Farleigh Priory dated 1257-8. He joined the Barons against the king, and was one of the chief leaders of the rebel party at the Battle of Lewes 14 May 1264....

Sir Humphrey de Bohun was taken prisoner at the Battle of Evesham 4 Aug. 1265, and sent from thence to Beeston Castle, Cheshire, where he died 27 Oct. 1265. 2

Grant to Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford, and his heirs, of the manors of Sudham and Withurst and 100s. of land in Haresfeud, co. Gloucester, the manor of Kanelauton, co. Huntingdon, and the manors of Waleden and Depeden, co. Essex, which the earl, by fine made in the king's court, had granted to Humphrey de Bohun his first born son, to hold after his death, to him and his heirs by Joan daughter of Robert de Quency his wife, and which belong to the king by reason of the trespass and forfeiture which the said Humphrey made against the king and his son Edward in adhering to Simon de Monte Forti, sometime earl of Leicester, and his partisans, the king's enemies.

  Marriage Information:

Humphrey married Eleanor DE BRAOSE, daughter of William "Black Will" DE BRAOSE, 14th Lord of Abergavenny, and Eve MARSHAL, after Aug 1241. (Eleanor DE BRAOSE was born in 1230 in Brecknock, Breconshire, Wales, died before 1264 and was buried in Llanthony-by-Gloucester Priory, Gloucestershire, England.)

  Marriage Information:

Humphrey also married Joan DE QUINCY, daughter of Robert "the younger" DE QUINCY and Helen FERCH LLYWELYN, before 7 Oct 1264. (Joan DE QUINCY was born about 1245 and died on 25 Nov 1284.)
