Robert de Neville gives the king 100s. for having a charter, namely that he might bring up to 200 acres of the demesne lands of his manor of Suttune within the metes of the forest of Galtres back to cultivation and for acquitting the same charter from [the fees of] the Chancery.

The king has committed the county of Northumberland and the castles of Newcastle upon Tyne and Bamburgh with all things pertaining to them to Robert de Neville to keep for as long as it pleases the king, rendering for this per annum at the Exchequer as much as William Heron was accustomed to render for the same. Order to the archbishop etc. and all others of the aforesaid county to be intendant and respondent to Robert as sheriff and keeper of the aforesaid county and castles in all things that pertain to that custody, as aforesaid.

Writ to Thomas de Normanvill, the king's steward, 20 Aug. 10 Edw. I. [1282]

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. Sunday after St. Denis, 10 Edw. I.

He held no lands &c. in the county, except £100 land by reason of the dower of Lady Ida his wife, sometime the wife of Roger Bertram, in the towns of Mitford and Felton. He had lands &c. in the bishopric of Durham, service unknown, because neither the sheriff nor the king's bailiffs intrude into the bishopric.

Ranulph, son of Robert de Nevill the younger, aged 20 on the day of St. Luke, 10 Edw. I., is his next heir.

Held together of the king in chief by service of 2 knights.

Writ to the sheriff of Lincoln to extend the lands, &c. of the said Robert, the king proposing to demise them to Ranulph his grandson and heir until his full age, he answering for the yearly value thereof at the exchequer, 10 Feb. 11 Edw. I.

Lincoln. Extent, Thursday, the morrow of Ash Wednesday.

Burrethe. The manor (extent given), whereof Ida late the wife of the said Robert is dowered of a third part.
Randeby. The manor (extent given), whereof the said Ida is dowered of a third part; out of which 22s. 1d. were paid by the said Robert to the abbot of Tupholm for lands &c., which were of Geoffrey de Nevill in Stratton, 2s. 6d. to the earl of Lincoln for a place of land called Tupholm, 13s. 4d. to the abbot of Kyrkested for alms granted to the said abbot &c. by his predecessors, and 20s. 8d. to the king of frankpledge (de francopl') for all his lands &c. in the county.
Middle Rasen. A free court worth 6s. 8d. yearly.
