Abstract of the Will of Maria Anna Cressener of Epsom in the County of Surrey, Widow and Executrix of George Cressener Esqr., late Citizen and Grocer of London deceased, written 31 Jan 1758, proved 16 Oct 1759. 5

Desires that her body be buried in the parish church of Earls Colne in the county of Essex in the vault where her late husband lies interred.

Gives & bequeaths to her grandson John Jolliffe Tufnell and his heirs and assigns all her freehold messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments in or near Golden Lane in the county of Middlesex subject to the payment of a £3 annuity to the church wardens of Earls Colne aforesaid, and a £2 annuity to the minister and overseers of the poor of that parish as charged by the Will of her late husband.

And whereas she is possessed of and now entitled to a number of leasehold messuages and tenements and warehouses in or near Watling Street the Old Change and Carter Lane in the City of London for the residue of several terms of years to come, she now gives, devises and bequeaths the same to Peter Basford of London in Trust in the first place and to permit her grandson John Jolliffe Tufnell to receive the rents and profits thereof to and for his own use and benefit during the remaining years of the said several terms as he and his father Samuel Tufnell shall both live there, whereafter to permit her daughter Elizabeth Tufnell to receive the same for her own separate use and also to dispose of the said household premisses by Will or otherwise to one or more of Maria's grandchildren, notwithstanding her coverture and with which her husband shall not intermeddle.

Gives and bequeaths to her grandson George Tufnell all dividends that shall arise from the estate of her son George Cressener.

Gives & bequeaths £1,000 each to her granddaughters Elizabeth Tufnell and Maria Anna Tufnell.

Gives & bequeaths £100 each for mourning to the said Samuel Tufnell, her daughter Elizabeth Tufnell, her grandson John Jolliffe Tufnell and Elizabeth his wife, her grandsons George Tufnell and William Tufnell, and her said granddaughters Elizabeth Tufnell and Maria Anna Tufnell.

Gives £100 each to the said Peter Basford and to Mrs. Cock as well as another £10 each for mourning.

Gives to the Reverend Mr. Rice £10 to be distributed among the poor housekeepers in Epsom.

Gives 40s. each to those of her seven servants as shall be living at the time of her decease, for every year they have lived with her. Also gives to each of them 5 guineas for mourning.

All the rest and residue of her estate she gives, devises & bequeaths the same to her daughter Elizabeth Tufnell for her sole and separate use, making and ordaining her sole executrix of her last will and testament.
